A Wild Mushroom

The Sierra Nevada forests are filled with an enormous variety of wild mushrooms.
This particular specimen was about four inches across, and appeared to be
growing out of a fallen log.  Taken at Fleming Meadow, Trail #8,
near Jenkinson Lake off Sly Park Road, Pollock Pines California,
in the Sierra Nevada Foothills.
